May 2: Netflix

Since I was up a lot of the night still sick, I took today off of work and I'm staying in bed.  I'm also watching netflix...lots of netflix.  That and eating popsicles, crackers, and sprite.  Being sick sucks.

February 7: Tests & Trailers

Since moving to Athens in 2010, I have made three trips to Athens diagnostic.  The first was for an MRI, the second an ultrasound (back in 2011) and the third was on Friday for more ultrasounds.  As nice as these people are, I hope I never have to see them again.  Frankly, I hope to never have any kind of ultrasound again unless it's because I'm pregnant (I even had an ultrasound done on my thyroid).  The technician said they'd read the results and I may know something as early as Monday (maybe).  I'm still praying it's nothing.  Jesus, please let it be nothing.

That evening, Tiffanie convinced me to go see the LEGO movie.  It was cute, although I didn't enjoy it as much as she did.  Although I'm not sure anyone (even the 11 year old next to me) enjoyed it as much as she did. ;)
One fun thing about going to 'kids' movies is you get to see lots of fun trailers for upcoming movies.  I am definitely excited about How to Train Your Dragon 2, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and the Muppet's: Most wanted!

Not so typical weekend in Waco!

Last week some friends came into town to play (who will from here on out be referred to as 'the group') . Although none of them were here explicitly to visit me (they were actually all here to visit each other), I was able to join along in much of the fun.

Friday night Sarah and I joined the group at a deep dish pizza place in Hewitt. Yummm. It's definitely a place I will visit again, and, on Thursday nights they have live music. :) From there, we went out to my favorite hide away, Woodway Park. We sat on picnic tables and watched the sunset. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't the best. And actually, it was the most disappointing I had ever seen while at the Lake.
Although the sunset was disappointing, the clouds were in rare form. :)
From there, they humored me on a short walk through the nature trail looking for fireflies. Unfortunately, again, it was quite hot out, and the fireflies were rarely to be seen.

But the night was nice and the company was great!

Saturday afternoon, I went out to the Lake with Megan...again. We stood in the water and memorized words...again. This time, however, we planned ahead and brought our suits! After a few hours of working on words, we headed for a swim. Joking the night before about swimming out to the buoy, I convinced Megan to swim out to the buoy with me. It was a nice little swim...and the water felt fabulous.
Can you see the buoy? I wish I knew how far the swim was exactly. :)
Did I mention when we first got in, we saw a snake in the water?! Yay for adventures!

Saturday night the group had a wedding and I met up with them after. Many, many laughs were shared and some fun memories were made!

Sunday morning was church and in the afternoon I headed to the theatre to see the 3-D movie UP with the group (plus Megan & Sarah)! Although I had heard stories about it being sad, I couldn't believe in the first 5 minutes my eyes began to well up. Don't worry, no tears were actually shed ;). Overall, it was a cute movie and the 3-D adventure was fun. It was my first 3-D movie, and probably not my last ;)
Sunday evening a large group of us celebrated Tiffani's birthday. Tiff is currently pursuing her PhD in Higher Ed at UCLA and has been a great resource and source of encouragement as I've sought to begin this journey into a PhD. After dinner, the group (and Sarah & I) ended up back at the Lake for the sunset and a swim. The second time out to the buoy was a lot easier as the water was calmer than when Megan and I swam out on Saturday afternoon.
Late Sunday night, Sarah and I said our goodbyes to the group as they were heading back to their respective homes the next day.

It was a wonderful weekend full of fun and friends. When people ask me what I'll miss about Waco when I leave, the list isn't that long, but the people are definitely at the top of it!

Jugular of the Jabberwoky!

So my friend Megan (who I also work with at Baylor), has a netflix subscription. I am often the beneficiary of her generosity in this regard. Many times, we have sat and watched new (or newish) movies because of this lovely subscription. I've even thought about getting one, but at this point, I need to be doing other things then watching movies (or at least not too many as I would be privy to on a netflix site).

Last week a long awaited movie arrived. Megan and I had been talking about this movie coming for awhile, and I was ecstatic that it finally came in the mail.

This movie brings back childhood memories. This movie provides educational moments for children. This movie scared the snot out of me when I was a child. And after having watched it last night, it still deserves that recognition.

Alice in Wonderland and Alice through the Looking Glass (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088693/) was produced in 1985 and was a made for TV movie. It was a two night special, Wonderland being first and following it up with the Looking Glass.

I remember enjoying the movie and hating the Jabberwoky. The same would be true today; I was surprised how creepy and disturbing the Jabberwoky was, even as an adult.

All this to say, a group of us watched the movie last night, ate cake in ice cream cones, and reminisced about our childhood favorites. Additionally, I stayed up way past my bedtime, which I suppose could be remnant of my childhood as well.

So the instructions said to use cupcake tins and then put the batter in the ice cream cups and turn them upside down in the tins. Maybe this works?! But I chose the less complicated method and simple filled them and let them bake standing up. You will see, however, that a few in the back are a bit deformed (and overflowing). Just means more to love/eat!

I didn't want to wait...My icing was a little melty because the concoction was still a bit warm. Yumm!

Megan and I had gone to the store to pick up dessert items when we thought these could be a great idea; a childhood movie with a childhood favorite dessert! The dessert was a hit!

Meredith didn't even realize she had frosting on her nose :)

What fun memories we shared, and built!
