May 7: Graduation Prep

Graduation brings in town lots of people from near and far.  Alex is a former student (graduated last year) and working in Savannah in Residence Life (currently).  I was really excited that we got to grab lunch and catch up.  I miss her face and since she had to leave immediately after graduation, it was fun to spend some time chatting.

Today my family came into town for graduation.  And tonight my mom and sister came over and helped me put together items for the party.  Tiffanie also joined in, but she doesn't like her picture being taken. Ha.  Anyway, we made graduation caps out of recees peanut butter cups and squares of chocolate to go on top of the cupcakes, and a bunch of other fun party things.  There was lots of laughter had as the four of us did crafts for the party!

February 22: Tax Training

Cory cracks me up.  He's quite the ham.  We were moving all our food and supplies to the miller learning center for our first tax training.  By the end of the day, I was mentally exhausted from trying to fill my head with information about non-resident alien (yep, that's what the government calls international students!) forms the 8843, 525TV, GA500, and 1040NR-EZ.  I'm glad I've at least done my own taxes so I'm moderately familiar with some of the forms.

December 26: New Games!

We spent most of the day playing new games I got for Christmas.  Quelf is a very funny game where you must 'obey the card'.  The cards tell you to do things like, sit on your hands the rest of the game, wear a chin strap, or get everyone to evaluate.  After a few rounds of quelf, we played Puerto Rico a strategy game.

Later that evening when my mom was out at a Christmas party, the power went out.  CJ and I spent the time huddled under blankets playing phase 10 and making smores in the fireplace.  It was fun, although I was very grateful when the power (read: heat) came back on!

October 29: You're Right

For as long as I can remember, I've been stubborn.  Some call it strong willed, tenacious, or determined. I believe I'm all of those, and...I'm stubborn.  There are many things the Lord continues to work with me on; some of these will be lifelong.  Although there are many wonderful things to being a determined and driven person, sometimes this means I'm not as humble as I should be.  There are times at which it's hard for me to admit I'm wrong, or that another person is right.

One of the passages from the lectionary text this week is Psalm 149.  The fourth verse states, 'the Lord takes pleasure in his people, he adorns the humble with victory.'  The passage struck a cord with me, as my stubbornness at times, plays hand in hand with my unwavering desire to be right.

My prayer is that I am humble, seek forgiveness, and admit my wrongdoings ... (when needed).

October 25: Silliness

Part of the fun of cleaning up an area is finding fun new toys that you didn't know existed.  This is one of those for our International Street Festival in the spring.  As we were cleaning out this office and finding a new place for the items, we can across this gem.  Pictured below are Whitney & Cory.  Whitney is a first year master's student in my program and Cory is a master's in social work intern.  I really enjoy working with them and the crazy fun energy they bring to the office.

October 18: Corn Maze

Washington Farms has a wonderful corn maze.  More than that, they have other seasonal things such as strawberries, blackberries, a pumpkin patch, and more.  My sister and I along with some friends went out to the maze for a post birthday party.  We went through the vortex, slid down the rolly slide, went through the maze, and jumped on the giant bouncy pillow.  There was lots of laughter involved.  Thanks Alex, Mallory, Tiffanie, Kara, Nikki, and Phil for playing along with my 7-year old d self.  It was fun!
