Diadeloso 2009

Tomorrow is Diadeloso (day of the bear). Yep, at Baylor, we take a random Thursday off school (and a half day off work) to celebrate our mascot! :) It's a beautiful day out. It's one of those California beach sorts of days. Only, I'm not in California and there is no worthy beach within driving distance. So instead, maybe I'll spend some time in Cameron Park (2nd largest in city park) and maybe head down to Lake Waco for sunset. It's nice, and I'll enjoy the time, however, it's no substitute for a California beach or a real mountain. :)

Missing home a bit today.

way overdue!

I have a problem. My dilemma is this, this blog. I realize this is a great way to keep people up to speed with the happenings of my life, and yet, I can't seem to do it. Maybe it's because I feel I need to have witty, or cleaver things to post. Maybe it's because it's time consuming. Maybe it's because I am a communicator and feel everything I write needs to truly reflect me. Maybe it's because I'm a perfectionist and can't let something just be (especially when writing/designing/etc). Maybe it's all of the above.

Needless to say, I realize it's a good idea, and I'm going to attempt it...again.

it's official!

I'm moving...not far that is...I have decided to change halls for next year.  So, what does that mean...it means I'm packing boxes, my house is a disaster, and life is crazy.  However, I am excited about this move.  Granted, it isn't what I thought I'd be doing right now...yes, I thought I'd be moving, but not across campus.  So why the move?  Well, this building will be co-ed, which will be different than the last three year (with 500 freshman women) and it will be a mix of freshman and upperclassmen.  In addition, I will be able to work with a living learning community.  This is a community that lives together and takes classes together, two of which I will be teaching.  Yes, that's right, I will get to teach a class in the fall AND one in the spring!  WOOHOO!  Additionally, this living learning community is in leadership, which is what I want to be doing in the long run anyway...so that is very exciting.  ALSO, I know it may not seem like a big deal, but I will be working by myself.  No assistant hall director.  Now I have loved both Ssereta and Charity, but I am very excited to be running things by msyelf...but a little nervous at the same time.  :)  But only a little!

So...anyway, I just thought in the middle of my packing I'd stop and write a little note.  I will post pictures of my next place once I get in...which I'm not sure when that will be yet.  I actually don't have a move date yet either, but they like to give you a moments notice and since the current director will be leaving on Saturday, I am hopeful that I'll get in next week sometime...crossing my fingers! :)

canoeing

So for Memorial Day, Kayla (a student/friend who works at the Rock on campus) and I went canoeing down the Brazos River.  It was great...although there were parts where we had to walk the canoe because the water was low.  Additionally, we made an 8 1/2 mile trip in a little over 4 hours.  We had a blast.  Here are some pictures from our trip down the river! :)

squirrel?

Nope...hair! So I have been growing my hair out for a little over a year. I found a new organization that creates free wigs for women who have lost their hair b/c of cancer treatments. So no...although this looks like a creepy fuzzy creature, it's my hair :)

And here is a picture of my new haircut...it's short, especially since I went from LOOOOONG to short...but I like it, and it's SO easy! I'll be happier when its just a bit longer and I can put it into a pony tail. :)

Saga of the Scar :)

I'm off to bed...but I had a couple people (family) ask how my scar was so here you go...I know, terribly interesting...ha!I'm now using Maderma (sp?) apparently it's suppose to be good for scars and it has SPF 30 in it as well.  Additionally, I can't expose it to sun for 18 months after surgery... it's going to be a long summer! ;)  Thank goodness for sunscreen!

Alcohol

I am on an Alcohol Education work team at Baylor.  A few weeks ago, as part of Diadeloso (day of the bear), our work team set up an experience where students were able to wear intoxication goggles and either walk the line or drive a golf cart...if they were unsuccessful, they were taken to jail (a fake jail of course).  Anyway, it was both entertaining and educational.

Here are some pictures from the day!  I also have a video of myself driving with the intoxication goggles...I'm not sure I know how to add video?!

This picture is with Meredith (she's a fellow hall director and part of the alcohol work team).
Okay, this is me...at the beginning, I couldn't believe how hard this was!  P.s. the officer gave me the 'way intoxicated' goggles...there are varying levels.
Here's Em...I'm not sure what she's doing...her goggles are in her hand...maybe she's trying to cheat :)
Oh Em...there you go! :)  Oh wait...you're about a foot away from the line...
Seriously, I promise we started out on the lines! :)
See...this is the first picture, I'm on the line... but not for long!
The Ecklund family!  I just love them!
Oh and me and Gianna...oh she is just too cute!  I just love being a part of their lives (and hers!).  I know her parents brag, but seriously...she's just that cute...and smart!  I absolutely love her laugh!
